Tooth Fairy Time....

Way to go Emma! Her first tooth is finally out and ready to be left for the Tooth Fairy! Dad checked on it first thing this morning and next thing we knew it was being handed to me....eww.

It was hanging on by a thread and it just took at little nudge and now Emma has been able to drink her juice with a straw in the hole, slurp spaghetti through the space and who knows what's next tonite at dinner.

The tooth is in the tooth bear ready to be put under her pillow tonite. My best friend from college, Layner sent me the bears a few years ago and they have little pockets in the front to hold the tooth safe under the pillow, we'd hate to lose it before the cashola gets passed over. Guess Emma will be wanting to go to Claire's tomorrow. Will update the blog with how it all went tomorrow.

Jeni's 5th Birthday Party

Nothing can be better than turning 5 years old. Emma's best buddy had her 5th birthday party today at Camille's Tea Room here in Abingdon. Jeni and 8 of her friends, dressed up in Sunday best, gathered for tea and finger sandwiches and lots of conversation... I saw the room afterwards and all the REAL china was still on the tables, unbroken, and all the girls were walking out with huge smiles on their faces telling what a great time they had ??!? Emma did spill that they had cupcakes and CHOCOLATE SANDWICHES with their tea so how bad can that be?

Jeni ran up to me on Wednesday her actual birthday yelling, "Ms. Kate, Ms. Kate guess what??? I'm 5 years old today" gave me a big hug and took off running... nothing like being young and loving having your big day. I am not sure I will be doing the same thing on Monday myself, and I am totally sure I wont be announcing any numbers to anyone, ugh.

Yet another retro one -- three years ago this month

Retro Post -- tiny Emma and Rachel

Two mildly amusing stories

Both are inappropriate, but that is a bonus as I see it. One) I brought some tortillas downstairs for movie night and Hope looks at me with furrowed brow and says, "where's the dip?" -- how dare I try and satisfy her snack craving with plain old tortilla chips. So, being a neglectful parent, I insisted she choke down the chips dry. Undaunted, she pointed to a minuscule stain on our antique - 100 year old chest that serves as our ottoman, "I want this dip." Sure enough, upon further inspection, this was a drop of cheese dip from who knows when. Embarrassing, but true.

Two) Emma now has homework. Her assignment was to cut out items beginning with the letter of the day and glue on a sheet, last night it was E. Well, we got a picture of Emma, and she drew an Elephant, now it got tricky. Scouring through magazines, I was messing with Kate and cut out a Viagra ad and, with Emmas attention focused on the TV, flipped Ma the cut-out ad and said, here's one -- erection. Well, Emma now "practiced" this new word several times, one I was sure she didn't hear. Oh well, Ma got her convinced I said "Election," so crisis averted. Unless she speaks up in class today....to be continued.

Saturday in the Park

Mom was recovering so we had a HOT morning in the park, a walk on the creeper trail and much more of nothing.

Pre-Halloween practice

Momma is sick. Real sick. She went down hard on Monday about 5p and hasn't moved in nearly 40 hours. Serious headaches, leg aches, and a low grade fever. We quarantined her upstairs and set up shop downstairs. Update-- Thursday, it seems the fog is lifting. So in my three days as Mr. Mom, I forgot one homework, skipped two bath times, and forgot to pack one snack, it has been established, I suck and Mom rawks. Seems the time I was "practicing" during her arm incident served me not-so-well. Never underestimate the role of MOM. Never a more under appreciated job, not me......but....

Many days of "whistle ball" got us through. Oh, and mattresses on the floor spells abuse. Apologize in advance, no idea how to make this go the right way....

This is how I roll, says Hope

Spotted watching Hanna Montana re-runs upside down....I gave grief to my LA buddy Kent because the kids were watching Drake and Josh and I spotted him starring in an episode. Though, to be honest, my end is way more pathetic -- I was watching Drake and Josh, while he was getting paid. Anyway, Larry David was in an episode of Hannah Montana so I quickly offered an apology. Plus, he acquitted himself quite well as he landed a job writing on Saturday Night Live, so CONGRATS KENT! Road trip to NY coming soon.

Very Lucky

We are very fortunate, these gals actually love each other. I guess I shouldn't be confused because my brothers and I loved each other. Yeah, "loved," cause loved means wanting to give love taps over the head with a shovel, right? And tripping a "loved" one into a bathtub full of toasters = "loved." Right? Yep, we loved each other.

OK, I lied

...we are not up to speed, we knock out one obstacle then another presents itself. Hope was taken ill Friday and Saturday with an unusally high fever, then she rebounds like a pro, even taking in the fair on Saturday afternoon. Plenty of animals as is the norm here at Green Acres, though I must say three little pigs were pretty cool as well as the slip 'n slide ducks. And the little dudes had a chance to ride a couple of overpriced rides....yeah, the fair, um.....rocks?, well, no, not really. But they enjoyed it, so what are you gonna do?

Back up to speed -- Big Rachels Birthday

The birthday girl -- one good looking octogenarian.

Grandpa Rock

Ah, small town life. Free concerts given by ageing "rockers" with a penchant for short shorts and ill-advised pelvic thrusts, attended by a handful of regulars and US.

Retro Post -- Grandma Rachels Birthday last year

Since we are heading to Roanoke tomorrow for Big Rachels birthday, I thought I would post a couple of pictures from a year ago today. Boo Boo rockin the Coors Lite, Rachel and Rachel working some puzzles, the three gals in a familiar spot, and finally some bedtime popcorn -- hopefully, since this was of the microwave variety, we haven't developed a case of butter-black-lung. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3179470.
I'm sure tomorrow, this same chemical which supposedly causes respiratory illness will cure cancer, make the Braves not suck, and make Whoopi sane.

Nice!
