Eight Girls in the House

Wow, who knew such small packages could make sooooo much noise. Even IF we took Jeni out of the equation there was another 2 0r 3 that could of shattered some glass. I think all had a great time, one was really shy and didn't even want to come in the house and then she ended up in the middle of all the festitivies cluching 2 barbie dolls she found. One girls older sister came and stayed with us - she helped to facilitate the chaos in the bedroom upstairs, and had the girls playing keep away with a balloon under the netting on Emma's bed, all the girls were under it - yes all 8 girls, and if you look at the picture you will see Hope standing and jumping right in the midst of all the older kiddo's. Check out the picture of Emma and Hope and their hairdo's... our wonderful hairdresser, Mz Cheryl told Emma to come in and she'd do her hair for her party and Hopie too of course, I ran to get balloons at the store while she took care of the girls and came back and was awed at the two beauties.

Poor daddio - kept trying to herd them into doing this or that, I just said nah.. let'em run wild. ( schools have been closed the last two days because of snow so everyone has cabin fever )

Emma got some great loot that 's for sure and I think she had a great time. True Cinderella didn't come and visit like at her3rd birthday party but I think she had a lot of fun!~
//
Now I'm going to go sit on the couch and have a drink.

Happy Birthday Emma!!

We got up yesterday and checked the news right off - no, sorry to say there was not a birthday announcement on the newscast but a notice saying that school was closed! Ok, Emma got her birthday off! Whereas most adults would love to have the day off and kids for that matter, when it's your birthday you want to be in school. That meant the after school program at church was canceled as well. So the kiddo's got to stay home and play all day.
Dad was great and came home after lunch and stayed, ( I was sick in bed upstairs, reminded me of the all day event of having Emma by the way ) so having your dad is always a bonus. Emma racked up in cashola from her birthday cards, running around showing all and asking "How does Zorro buy me a card and sign it???" ( Zorro the cat that is ) Top the day off with takeout from Chili's.... the kid loves her corn dogs... ugh!
/
All is not lost however, the birthday party is tonite, so far the tally is 7 out of 9 girls from Emma's class will be over tonite for general craziness, pizza, cake and whatever else. Say a prayer for dad and I.

The Puzzler....

For christmas Rachel got a 1000 piece puzzle from Booboo and GG, and she decided on this nasty weekend to break it out of the box and do it in one night! Such ambition in the young is great to see, then reality hit -- are you sure we aren't missing any pieces??? this not only from Rach but from daddio as well. Jeesh, patience is NO WHERE to be found on the SHOCKLEY family crest that's for sure. After several hours Saturday night and Sunday afternoon we got about 1/2 of it done, now it's the test for momma not to touch it until she comes back home.

She wanted her picture taken where???

Will have to tell Cheryl to show this to Danny and Zack at the radio station, they can do a before and after picture of Hope getting her picture taken in the bathroom. Last time it was wearing the witch's hat, this time she is representing dad's company, AlphaNR. Not sure what dad and Hope were doing this night exactly.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day at the Shockley Casa de sick.... we all made it to school and our respective parties. Hope came out of her class with a neon pink mouth, when I asked what happened she pointed to a matching blob on her pants and said it was frosting from the cupcake she ate ( it didn't come out of the pants and took about 2 days to fade off her face even with a bath ). Hope came home with a bag full of goodies and treats and love from her preschool class.

Emma had a party at school - and due to kids food allergies we could not have candy or cake...???? so we had chips, cheese, crackers, grapes and jello jigglers ( what a rip!) the kids made out with lots of valentines, tattoo's, sticker puzzles, and playdoe. Not too shabby.

The girls made out again from our neighbors who brought cupcakes and little bag of candy, one of david's co-workers who sent home goodie bags, and memaw who sent cards and loaded them full with tattoo's! Emma could give those folks from Miami Ink a run for their money with them around her wrist, finger, neck, arm, both feet and shin.

David surprised me with a card and a present first thing thrusday morning! How lucky am I??? He on the other hand had to wait as I did all my shopping that day. Go David, and he cooked for us that night too. Lucky lucky me.

Tuesday

Cutting my hair in the bathroom while the kids were bathing. Emma says, "Cut it down to bald!"
Hope then felt compelled to add, "No Emma, he is already bald." Nice.

Back to school

This was awfully cute, Emma missed six days from school and on her return this week, each of the kids in her class got up and gave her a hug. Not only that, each wrote a note to her, variations of "Emma, we like you". Very cute.

Things overheard/seen at the Casa de sick

Been a rough couple of weeks here, all five of us have had some ailment or another: kidney stones, massive fevers, puking, mental illness, we have run the gamut. Some amusing things though over the past ten days or so...

1. Emma wanting to practice singing Happy Birthday to Martin Luther King Jr so at prayer time we would have all the kinks worked out.
2. Hope, one of the few morning so was feeling spry, was trying to get my attention on my way to work -- her bedroom overlooking the driveway -- jumping up and down in front of the window ....without a shirt....
3. Hope singing a song from High School Musical -- Fabulous -- but with some lyrics just a bit off.

Original version:
She wants fabulous,That is her simple request,All things fabulous,Bigger and better and best.

Hope's version:
She wants fabulous, she has a pretty bush. Fabulous, she has a pretty bush.

Not sure that version is found on the Disney channel.
4. Emma telling Hope that, "Hope, that can kill someone!" -- when reacting to, um, apparently someone, how do I put delicately, Emma may have witnessed a "gas leak".

David's Ordination

Today David was ordained into the Presbyterian Church here in Abingdon VA! The ceremony was great, our pastor Robert really does such a great job at this type of thing, almost as good as when he baptized the girls and I last Easter.

The video is several minutes so I am attempting to load it so everyone can see it. Unfortunatly Emma and Hope have this terrible viral thing that is going around our area --we were talking to one of the other members of church who is a dr and works at the e/r up the street and apparently it's high fever/cough congestion lasting up to 10 DAYS!!! So, we told Memaw and Grandaddy and G/ma Rachel and Mary to pass on coming down to see it in person to avoid contaminating them.

I being a good wife and mother dosed the girls up on medicine and dragged them to church on Sunday to watch Dad be ordained, they didn't know what was going on but understood that we needed to be there as witnesses to it. Everyone was surprised to see the girls and after I reminded everyone about David and we were not going to miss it, and advised not to sit in our pew.

I am very proud of David and that he was chosen to represent our church and be a leader, I know he will do wonderful things as a disciple of God.

( Good thing he will be practicing cleaning up his language for Lent!! )
